Steel Dragon Adventures
What are we?
We run in-person Dungeons & Dragons sessions for 5th-12th grade kids in neighborhoods across Pittsburgh. Has your child been wanting to play the game but finds it difficult to get a group together? That’s where we come in!
Steel Dragon Adventures is run by Colten Fisher, a local Pittsburgh D&D player and Game Master. He has spent the last 8 years running full length campaigns and countless one-shots for players ranging from 10 to 60 years old. When a summer D&D camp in his neighborhood met with explosive demand, he made Steel Dragon Adventures to bring the game to even more kids across Pittsburgh.
In addition to running games, we also teach DMing. Do you have a group with whom you want to play, but want to shore up your rules knowledge and build confidence before sitting in the DM’s chair? Just reach out and we set up a time to meet.

I’m interested in learning how to DM

FAQs
-
A game in which you play a fantasy character going on an adventure. If that sounds broad, that’s because it is! D&D is hugely versatile. I’ve adapted it to settings from books and tv, taken it into space for sci-fi adventures, and done thousands of hours of your standard sword and sorcery.
And you don’t play alone; every table makes up a Party, who go on the adventure together, and the Dungeon Master (DM), who sets the stage and presents the challenges. It’s the party’s job to look after each other, help their fellow characters accomplish their personal goals, and generally work together to be awesome.

Dungeon Master (or DM) simply means the person who is running the game. While everyone else at the table plays a single character, it’s the DM’s job to present villains, challenges, and other characters with whom the players can interact. In short, the DM is the world, the bad guys, and the non-player good guys all rolled into one.
Game Master, or GM, is interchangeable with DM. The only difference is that while a Dungeon Master is specific to Dungeons and Dragons, a Game Master is the general term that can apply to any number of similar games.

Technically, nothing but an adventurous and collaborative attitude!
Though we do also recommend a water bottle, writing utensil, and dice (if they have them).
Everything else will be provided.

Generally, prices for a game session run at $30 per person, but may vary based on location, event, or other circumstances. Please reach out if you have a child who wants to play but the price presents a hurdle.
-
Always!
Please let me know ahead of time if your child has any food allergies or intolerances. Often there will be a pre-session questionnaire that asks about this.

Yes! D&D is for all ages! If you don’t mind playing online, you can sign up for games with me here: https://startplaying.games/gm/colten
I do also host paid in-person games here in Pittsburgh. Feel free to reach out to me by email if you’re interested in scheduling something.
Lastly, because I’m by no means the only good Dungeon Master in Pittsburgh, you can also find groups with which to play at Mimic’s Market or Game Masters, and on the Dungeons and Drafts website.
